Our Faculty and Staff
The Montessori teacher (facilitator) observes and participates in all classroom activities. Head teachers are certified through an accredited Montessori teacher preparatory college program and/or hold an Associate and/or Bachelor of Arts in an educational related field of study. The assistant teachers have knowledge and/or background in early childhood education as well as experience in working with children. The head teacher, in unison with the site director, supervises staff positions to ensure the safety and well being of your child and his/her quality educational experience.
Each staff member infuses our school environment with dedication and enthusiasm. As mentors and guides to your child, our staff encourages sharing and cooperation as each facilitator also supports individual expression. We promote the concepts of positive discipline by verbal reasoning and conflict resolution in contrast to physical conflict resolution. Dr. Montessori believed that by role-modeling positive behaviors and tasks within a consistent, well planned program and a prepared environment, children would develop responsibility as well as a desire to work and play in a cooperative manner with others.
Chef Steven Magana: CHEF EXTRAORDINAIRE...
Chef Steven Magana joined Sacramento Montessori School in May 2009. He came to us from Red Bag Catering where he supervised catering operations such as Eppie’s Great Race, Tour de California, and Siemens Presidential Banquets. In his capacity at Red Bag Catering, Chef Steven prepared the menus, did the ordering, and prepared the meals as well as supervised the event. These events ranged in size from 80 to 3,000 meals, most of which were prepared from natural foods.
Chef Steven has studied with our School’s former Chef, Scott Singer. From Scott, Chef Steven learned of our commitment to using organic and natural ingredients in preparing fresh, home-made meals. For example, Chef Steven purchases organically grown pinto beans in bulk from the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op.
Chef Steven is a follower of the “Slow Food” Movement. This Movement was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. Proponents of this movement believe in taking pride in what one cooks and using locally and organically grown fruits and vegetables. Chef Steven also shops at the local farmer’s markets where he selects prime fruits and vegetables from certified organic farmers. For more information about the Slow Food Movement, visit www.SlowFood.org.
Chef Steven is certified in SafeServ; this certification means that Chef Steven is educated in food safety and kitchen sanitation and has met the requirements for such.
Each week, Chef Steven posts Menus in each of the School’s four classrooms and publishes them on the School’s website as well at www.MontessoriSacramento.com.
