Organically grown; heartfully prepared...
Chef Steven Magana
Chef Steven Magana joined Sacramento Montessori School in May 2009. He came to us from Red Bag Catering where he supervised catering operations such as Eppie’s Great Race, Tour de California, and Siemens Presidential Banquets. In his capacity at Red Bag Catering, Chef Steven prepared the menus, did the ordering, and prepared the meals as well as supervised the event. These events ranged in size from 80 to 3,000 meals, most of which were prepared from natural foods.
Chef Steven has studied with our School’s former Chef, Scott Singer. From Scott, Chef Steven learned of our commitment to using organic and natural ingredients in preparing fresh, home-made meals. For example, Chef Steven purchases organically grown pinto beans in bulk from the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op.
Chef Steven is a follower of the “Slow Food” Movement. This Movement was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. Proponents of this movement believe in taking pride in what one cooks and using locally and organically grown fruits and vegetables. Chef Steven also shops at the local farmer’s markets where he selects prime fruits and vegetables from certified organic farmers. For more information about the Slow Food Movement, visit www.SlowFood.org.
Chef Steven is certified in SafeServ; this certification means that Chef Steven is educated in food safety and kitchen sanitation and has met the requirements for such.
Each week, Chef Steven posts Menus in each of the School’s four classrooms and publishes them on the School’s website as well at www.MontessoriSacramento.com.
Grab & Go Fundraiser
Dear Montessori Parents,
Starting Thursday May 13, 2010 we will be starting our “Montessori Grab & Go Fundraiser”. This Fundraiser is a pretty special opportunity for parents to be able to pick up a healthy meal on the go both for breakfast & lunch while helping his/her child’s school. This is our first “trial run” on the fundraiser to see if we can get the right amount of support from our parents to help make our garden, kitchen and overall school an even more enriching experience than what it already is for your child. The fundraiser will be held once a week and to start we are choosing Thursday. If another day works better for any parents all suggestions are appreciated just email me at Smagana17@yahoo.com. We are asking that parents pre-order by Wednesday May 12 at 1:30 pm. The best way to pre-order is to drop off your order in a provided envelope located next to the tuition boxes with the payment for the food or simply stop by the kitchen and drop it off with me Chef Steve personally. Now as for the pricing, I Chef Steve have done much research to find the best ingredients I can find at an affordable rate. For our first run our menu is as follows:

Sac CO-OP Turkey Chorizo & Egg Burritos- $2.50
Berry & Yogurt Parfaits w/ Homemade Granola- $2.75
12 oz Organic Coffee w/ Homemade Bagel- $2.00

Now as a final thought please remember this is our first run attempting this fundraiser so all input and comments are appreciated just send me an email at smagana17@yahoo.com. Please remember this is essentially to better the programs for your children and the only way to make this successful is with your support. -Thanks For Reading- Chef Steve Magana-
